How it all began
Antonia Kipainoi
Initiator and managing director
Before I turned 18, I decided that I wanted to spend some time in Africa without knowing exactly what I would do and where. I applied to the German Development Service (DED) and ended up in Kenya.
Here I took part in a project about female genital mutilation - something I didn't know existed before... I learnt how many girls are forced to undergo this practice and spoke to various community representatives about why FGM is still so widely practiced in the Kuria community in Kenya. Thinking back to my own childhood, growing up sheltered, with all the basic needs and lots of love, I told myself that I will fight for every girl in this world to have the same rights and opportunities as I had.

This led to the founding of Zinduka - to give every girl the rights and opportunities she deserves.

The German team

Our team in Germany supports Zinduka Kenya from afar. Our main task is to collect donations that flow directly into the projects in Kenya.
Through online and offline campaigns, we bring the topic into our society in an unbiased way and thus normalise the conversation about FGM. The findings from Kenya are incorporated into the awareness and information events in Germany. In this way, Zinduka actively supports South-North cooperation and promotes the participation of local organisations from Kenya in the global North in order to promote One World.
